I love editing almost as much as I love writing. And as an established author, I know what it takes to write a book. It's hard work, especially when you have a full-time job. I've been there and know what writers put themselves through to create a book from their hearts, experiences and imagination.
I am a thorough editor--both general and copy editing--with an eye toward manuscript details and overall cohesiveness. This includes: character and plot development, dialogue, plot pacing and raising the quality of your writing. I won't let you get away with a single lazy sentence or clichéd description.
My critiques are thoughtful and honest but always compassionate.
I've edited for individuals just starting out and publishers who buy manuscripts. I know the industry well and can help you navigate its tricky waters.
Children's books, from picture books to middle grade to young adult. I also work on new adult books.
Full manuscript critiques include a thorough reading of your manuscript, marking my thoughts, questions and likes in Track Changes. Then I'll read it again to make sure I didn't miss anything and see if my initial thoughts still stick. Finally I'll write you a complete editorial letter noting everything that works, things that can be improved and suggestions for any necessary tweaks. If, after reading through my comments and letter you have any questions, I'm here to answer them.

I started my career as a copy editor. It's a skill I've kept with me through all my years of writing, even when I worked in the corporate world. I love eyeballing every single sentence to make sure it is completely error-free. There's nothing I dislike more than reading a finished book that has typos. It makes me grind my teeth.
When I'm copy editing a manuscript, I'm on the hunt for mistakes. Everything from there/they're/their, to capitalizing words such as Dumpster (it's a brand, not a thing), subject/verb agreements, and all the punctuation in between. I know the differences between an em dash and an en dash and when to use a colon and when to use a semi-colon. I'd love to work with you on your project.
Simple rate for copy editing only: $2/per page with a minimum fee of $20.
